This is a must have for any vending machine business!

Security. Unless you live in a saintly community, we all have to address this issue sometime or another. You have made an investment in your future… now you have to take certain precautions to protect your machines and assets.

Below are some suggestions to enhance security for your machines.

  1. Not only are high traffic areas great for business, but it is the top security you can give to your vending machines.

  2. More and more folks have access to keys to a variety of vending machines, we suggest adding an extra lock to prevent unscrupulous individuals from nabbing your products. If they go beyond two locks, they are bound and determined to break in to your machines and nothing is going to stop them short of an iron shield.

  3. If you are luck enough to place some vending machines in retail lobbies with video cameras, try to get placement in view of the cameras. With the exception of hiring a security guard placed by the side of each machine, this is truly the best in free security.

  4. Wireless security cameras are always a great idea. You can add a camera eye inside your machine and the base unit behind the machine or on the wall. We like wireless, because it is cheap and with the advancements of the digital age, you get clean pictures. This type of security will protect you and your assets if you ever have to go to court. 5. Keep your machines in well lit environments.

  6. Keep your machines in the public eye. Don’t get tucked away in some unseen corner, this is definitely an invitation to get ripped off.

  7. Get insurance. Find an insurance company that will insure your machines. Be sure to shop around and get various quotes. If the quote you get is hard to understand, go to one that is to the point without the headaches of trying to read rocket science. [Remember this too: The cheapest quote isn’t always the best quote]

  8. Always keep your machines indoors. However, there is an exception to this. If you place your vending machines at public rest areas, be sure to request that the custodian install a safety gate/screen.

  9. Installing a wireless door alarm is a very good idea too. If someone opens the door to your vending machine, other than you or an employee, there is nothing more embarrassing to a crook than drawing attention to his/her mischief. The shrill of a high pitched alarm will definitely draw attention, and send the crook on their way. People may also take notice, which can possibly lead to an arrest.

  10. Don’t let you machine get taken. Anchoring your vending machine down is always a great idea. Using “L” or “C” brackets hinged to the hind legs of your vending machine and to the floor or wall will give you one more added security feature for your vending machines.

I wish I could say your machines will always be safe, unfortunately we live in a world with people who don’t care about morality or honesty. However, for the most part, using all or most of the security techniques mentioned above will ensure the safety of your investment. Don’t fall victim to unscrupulous individuals who have disregard of you hard earned efforts. Protect your business!

If you have any techniques that you would like to share with the vending community, please feel free to email us your ideas.
